Sustainability at Bruntwood

The team and ways of working:

We’re based in the heart of Manchester City Centre, Union overlooking Albert Square. We’re a team of twenty that cover all People & Talent activity across the Bruntwood Group including subsidiaries that overall account for around 1,200 colleagues.

We’re a close team that focuses on driving our values and supporting each other to deliver effective practices and an agile way of working that adapts well to change/growth.

Job purpose:

The Learning & Development Partner acts as an internal consultant and capability builder, driving business performance by developing critical talent and skills across the business.

Partnering closely with managers, leaders and the People & Talent team, you will design and implement high-impact learning and talent solutions that elevate organisational capability and maximise the potential of our colleagues.

You’ll work closely with a Learning & Development Advisor, our People Coordinators, a Digital Learning Specialist, as well as our Head of Leadership Development.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Skills & Capability: Conduct targeted skills gap analyses across key divisions to establish and deliver critical skills required over the next 12 months.
  • Management Development Strategy & Delivery:Review, design, and roll out a refreshed core management development programme in partnership with internal and external experts, establishing toolkits to build capable, confident, and inspiring people managers across every level of the business
  • Competency Framework Evolution & Embedding: Build on and evolve our early-stage competency framework into a practical, business-wide model. Design and deliver the rollout training for managers and colleagues, establishing clear assessment metrics and ensuring the framework is fully embedded across day-to-day operations and talent processes by April 2027
  • Consulting & Stakeholder Partnering: Act as a trusted advisor to managers, leaders and People Business Partners/Advisors, diagnosing capability challenges and translating commercial objectives into pragmatic, high-impact learning solutions.
  • Impact Evaluation & Performance Analytics: Work with data and analytics to track the impact of learning programmes, evaluating improvements in team performance, retention, and manager effectiveness rather than just attendance metrics.
  • L&D Direction: Drive the focus of our learning service, working closely with the L&D Advisor (who manages operational service, policy, and foundational training) and the Digital Learning Specialist (who manages our LMS and digital learning) to align learning activity to business needs.
  • Complex Needs Scoping: Critically evaluate complex individual, team, or business learning challenges; look beneath the surface to determine root causes, challenging assumptions to make sure any proposed intervention is commercially justified and genuinely worthwhile before committing support.
  • Learning Transformations: Drive the initial design and pilot phases of company-wide skills transformations (e.g., embedding AI skills, digital fluency, customer experience), setting up sustainable learning pathways to make sure colleagues remain equipped for shifting business needs.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience operating as an L&D Partner or Manager in a commercial, fast-paced business. Ideally of a comparable size and complexity
  • A track record of designing, commissioning, and running impactful management development programmes that measurably improve manager capability and team performance.
  • Proven ability to run skills gap analyses and consult with leaders, moving past surface-level requests to identify the root causes of performance issues.
  • Highly engaging workshop facilitator who creates an open, challenging, and psychologically safe environment for people to develop practical skills
  • Credible and authentic communicator who can challenge, guide, and advise managers and leaders with confidence
  • A curious mind, you love learning about new technologies (such as AI and modern workplace tools), key trends and you have a desire to understand people.
  • You’ll be able to translate data into actionable insights, strategies, and plans.
  • You’ll be comfortable both developing learning programmes as well as delivering them and thrive on energising and upskilling colleagues

We really believe that if you’re brilliant to work with, you deserve brilliant things in return:

  • 28 days holiday plus you get your Birthday off work - and if that’s not enough you can also buy & sell holidays too
  • 24 hours a year volunteer time - there are endless opportunities for you to get involved in supporting the causes that matter most to you
  • Healthcare cash plan - so you can claim back medical expenses like optical, dentist & physiotherapy.
  • Life assurance cover for all colleagues
  • Up to 8% matched pension scheme
  • Discounts & cashback at leading retailers
  • Interest free loans to pursue your passions and apply for up to £2000 towards learning a new skill

On our careers page you’ll find our benefits calculator, where you can select what benefits you’d use to calculate the savings you’d make.

In addition to what to expect within the role and your benefits, it’s good to know that you’ll be working for a business that gives back - The Oglesby Charitable Trust has donated more than £30m since it started out in 2001. Supporting charities across Arts and Culture, Education, Environment, Medical Research and Social & Health Inequality.

We’ll do our best to get back to you within a week of your application, however if it has been longer than this please feel free to email talent@bruntwood.co.uk for an update.
