Summary and purpose:

This is a hands-on technical leadership role, leading the engineering of high-quality digital products across web, backend and mobile platforms.

You’ll combine hands-on software engineering with leadership, shaping scalable customer-facing applications and services that drive real customer and commercial value. You will lead a small team of 3 Software Engineers while remaining actively involved in architecture, coding, delivery and engineering quality.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys operating across the full stack, from React web applications and React Native mobile apps through to backend services, APIs, CI/CD pipelines and platform architecture.

You’ll work closely with product, design and wider digital teams to deliver end-to-end software solutions that support our customers and business objectives.

What we’re looking for:

  • Strong hands-on experience building full stack applications using React, TypeScript and Node.js
  • Experience developing and deploying mobile applications using React Native
  • Experience building and maintaining backend APIs, integrations and data services
  • Experience working with databases such as MongoDB or similar modern data platforms
  • Proven experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and engineering automation (we use GitHub Actions)
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, engineering best practice and quality assurance
  • Managerial experience would be beneficial, but if you’ve mentored or supported engineers and are keen to step into management, we’d love to hear from you
  • Prior experience in Agile product development environments
  • Experience collaborating effectively with other digital teams, including CRM and cross-functional engineering teams

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll work closely with product, design and wider digital teams to build scalable digital products and customer experiences across web, backend and mobile platforms.

  • Take an active role in the design, coding, testing and delivery of web applications, backend services/APIs and mobile applications using React, React Native, TypeScript and Node.js
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of software engineers, supporting day-to-day delivery, architecture decisions, code reviews and professional development
  • Lead engineering best practices, coding standards and architectural principles across frontend, backend and mobile development
  • Develop and maintain efficient CI/CD pipelines, automation and release processes to improve speed, reliability and engineering productivity
  • Implement quality engineering practices including code review, testing and performance assurance to ensure reliable, scalable applications
  • Work across the stack to ensure smooth integration between customer-facing applications, backend services and data platforms
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including architectural diagrams, design specifications and engineering standards
  • Stay up to date with emerging engineering tools, frameworks and practices, identifying opportunities to improve team capability and platform quality
