Job purpose:
The Quantity Surveyor provides high quality solutions to our colleagues and customers, resolves difficult issues and uses knowledge to improve our processes. You’ll work in an advisory and coordinating capacity, proactively seeking the best possible shared solutions. You’ll work as part of a team within a matrix using your knowledge and creative thinking to contribute and drive the wider team to achieve their goals.
What we’re looking for in a nutshell:
We are seeking a newly chartered Quantity Surveyor with strong subject matter expertise and a comprehensive understanding of various processes and technical approaches. The ideal candidate will be comfortable mentoring others, making impactful decisions within their area, and driving independent delivery.
You will play a key role in contributing to our business unit plan while ensuring a high level of service for customers, colleagues, and stakeholders. Building trusted relationships both internally and externally is crucial, as well as managing conflicting priorities to foster collaboration. You’ll be expected to innovate and use data-driven insights to solve complex challenges, particularly in the areas of sustainability within commercial buildings.
With a degree in Quantity Surveying or an equivalent qualification, you’ll also be passionate about sustainability and resilient in a fast-paced environment. Strong numeracy, literacy, and transparent communication skills are essential for success in this role.

What you’ll be doing:
- Contribute to the Portfolio Budget setting process by bringing data, insight, and live benchmark costs
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to understand their business needs and priorities from a cost and contractual perspective and provide support
- Provide high quality service for QS activity and keep colleagues and stakeholders informed on progress
- Proactively seek improvements of Bruntwood standard contracts, documentation and live benchmark data and make suggestions and recommendations to keep these updated
- Contribute to the delivery of projects across the divisional portfolios using your knowledge of internal and external QS best practice.
- Enable the wider project team to make sure all schemes are delivered successfully
- Engage with portfolio team colleagues on inputting delivery to a high quality standard, in line with customer expectations.
- Share your broad knowledge of customer and stakeholder needs across teams to provide cost estimates/plans
- Make sure all works are procured in line with Bruntwood’s procurement strategy and advise on the optimum procurement route to take
- Own the contractual administration and cost control of projects from low to medium value and complexity, for assets and required Cat A & B fit-outs, using innovative and progressive solutions.
- Collaborate with the internal Building Surveyors, Senior Building Surveyors and Regional Building Consultancy Leads on budgets and costs, driving best possible value.
- Proactively build supplier relationships by staying connected, building rapport and engaging with them.
- Complete monthly cash flow forecasts to enable the team to stay on track and commercially focused.
- Carry out cost analyses and compare against benchmark data for similar projects. Highlight, and explain, significant variances against benchmarks.
- Drive reporting and contractual administration for your own area, creating valuable and actionable insights, including cost variances throughout the whole project lifecycle.
- Support project handover from delivery to operations post PC to deliver a seamless experience.
- Work in partnership across team on relevant projects and activity
- Input into specialist areas and steering groups
- Pro-actively seek workflow improvements and input into opportunities to add value
- Engage with and motivate the wider team to perform and always be a brand guardian.
- Manage risk and statutory compliance for your own area in line with the company policies and practices
- Stay updated with wider industry best practices and guidance
- Proactively use your work to contribute to achieving Bruntwood’s sustainability goals
